State Tax Assessment
Thursday, April 15, 2004
April Fools
All taxpayers are required this very day
To pay a hefty sum by law, in any way.
It need not be smooth, shinny or pretty;
Not alive nor dead, just relinquished quickly.
But make no mistake it must be paid, it's no farce.
The penalty though undecided will be quite harsh.
For this state is desperate and willfully vague.
Do not be delinquent or expect a great plague.
Assessments and negotiations are quite boring;
Thank heavens for CPA's who are most adoring.
Compliance to the laws accepted with perfect tools,
Especially on a day filled with many....April Fools.

Texas property tax renditions for businesses due by April 15
By Bryan Kirk, Seguin Gazette
"In a recent press release, [Texas] State Comptroller Carole Keeton-Strayhorn urged Texas businesses to render their property with area appraisal districts. A rendition is an asset list prepared by business entities to help the appraisal district set property values.
Assets that must be rendered include taxable inventory, furniture and fixtures, machinery and equipment and other property a business owned or managed as of Jan. 1, 2004. The 78th Legislature passed Senate Bill 340, which provides civil penalties for business owners who fail to comply."
COMMENT:
We previously reported on the new Texas law that puts some teeth in rendition requirements (see archives for Thursday, February 26, 2004).
These reports are due tomorrow, April 15. Forms are available at the following link:
